What is there to see and do in the area?In Arrochar and its surrounding areas, the emphasis is definitely on the great outdoors and the stunning Scottish Scenery. Arrochar, is in the heart of The Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park and it is a great base from which to experience all that the Scottish countryside and the National Park has to offer.Walking and climbing are popular in the area. You can do the rocky climb of the Cobbler in the Arrochar Alps and get some spectacular views or just admire it from the beer garden at the Village Inn! Ben Vorlich, Ben Lomond & Ben Ime are just some of the 21 Munros to climb. Other pursuits in the area include sailing, riding, walking, canoeing, fishing, watching wildlife and much more. 30 minutes drive away is the small town of Balloch, situaterd on the banks of Loch Lomond. Why not enjoy some retail therapy at Loch Lomond Shores? There you can enjoy a stroll around the outlet shops, take a boat trip up Loch Lomond, climb to the top of Drumkinnon Tower or hire bicycles or kayaks. Drumkinnon Tower plays host to the Loch Lomond Aquarium, the first new Sea Life Centre to be built in the UK for over 10 years. While you are in Balloch pop in to The Tullie Inn and enjoy some lunch in the beer garden or have a pint at the Dog House - a favourite with locals and tourists alike. You can discover more about the National Park at the National Park Gateway Centre at the The Loch Lomond Folk Festival is held annually in July in the town of Balloch. With bands performing over one whole weekend the festival now attracts visitors from all over the world. Inveraray is a scenic drive away from Arrochar and perfect for a day out. There is plenty too see and do. Visit Inveraray Castle, the home the Duke & Duchess of Argyll and the home of the clan Campbell since the 25th Century. While in Inveraray make sure you visit Inveraray Jail - Scotland's "living" 19th century prison. Helensburgh is a short drive from Arrochar down the sea lochs of Loch Long and the Gareloch. It is another popular town to visit especially by appreciators of the world famous architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Mackintosh's Hill is known to be his finest domestic masterpiece. From Helensburgh you can enjoy a stroll along the promenade or for the more adventurous try sea angling or sailing. Scotland is the home of golf and there are many golf courses in the area including Helensburgh, Clydebank and Cardross. The annual Scottish Open takes place in July at Loch Lomond Golf Club and the Village Inn is a perfect location to be based to go and enjoy some excellent golf and spectacular views throughout the course.
